interzum 2023: Sustainability trend show
Bonn/Cologne. The interzum is back as a presence event from May 9 to 12, 2023 in Cologne. With its more than 1,500 exhibitors, it will now once again be the world's leading presence trade fair for suppliers to the furniture and interior design sector after the pandemic-induced digital version in 2021. A real classic within their product range is veneer. In Cologne, around 100 suppliers will present the thinnest solid wood in the world in an unprecedented variety. In addition to the traditional range of untreated veneer sheets from more than 140 wood species worldwide, the industry will be showing innovations such as modern smoked, printed, charred, combined or perforated veneers. For large-scale interior design, dealers, manufacturers and processors will also offer elegant solutions for trendy boiserie.
This year's interzum is all about the megatrend of sustainability. Wood scores here with its natural ability to store climate-damaging CO2 and is therefore an excellent material for interior design, furniture and many other products. Its veneer offers the same positive properties. As thinly sliced wood, it retains its natural freedom from pollutants, its naturalness and the ecological advantages of sustainability and climate friendliness. Veneer now has a special status: while a few years ago it was replaced by so-called substitutes, i.e. substitute materials, especially in the surface, today it itself is coming back as an ecological substitute for plastics and synthetics. Its steady growth in sales is proof of this trend. Whether as a furniture surface, flooring, plywood, packaging or in lifestyle products, veneer is conquering the markets.
Wooden products also offer the advantage of long-term circulation in line with the circular economy. "Furniture frames, boards and panels made of wood and veneer can be used multiple times in a cascade of high-quality uses. The furniture industry has therefore made 'Reduce, Repair and Re-Use' its core theme and is now going hand in hand with the creative startups active here. It has recognized that furniture and furnishing design must be created at the outset in such a way that something new can be made out of it again at the end of the initial use phase," explains Ursula Geismann, long-standing trend expert and Managing Director of the Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN), with a view to interzum 2023.
During interzum, interested trade visitors are cordially invited to the IFN information stand. IFN can be found in hall 5.2, booth F80. On Thursday, May 11, 2023, the interzum veneer party will take place directly after the trade fair closes. All visitors interested in the veneer topics, exhibitors, IFN members and people of the industry as well as members of the media are also cordially invited to attend
